This deed of revocation template lets an individual revoke a general (ordinary) power of attorney they have made, for example one made for a period abroad or for a single transaction. The donor signs it as a deed in front of a witness.
Who is this template for?
It suits anyone who has given a general power of attorney and wants to end it, either for every attorney or for one named attorney. As the document itself states, it is not for a lasting power of attorney, a registered enduring power of attorney, or a power expressed to be irrevocable and given to secure an interest of the attorney or an obligation owed to them.
What does the template include?
The document is made up of numbered sections:
- What This Deed Is For — who the deed is for and the kinds of power of attorney it does not cover.
- The Donor — the donor’s name, address and the date of the deed.
- The Power of Attorney Being Revoked — the date of the power and up to two attorneys, with a choice between revoking it in full or removing one named attorney.
- Revocation — the date the revocation takes effect, and confirmation that earlier acts and other powers of attorney are unaffected.
- Notice to the Attorney — a notice telling the attorney their authority ends, why serving notice matters, and a table recording each copy served.
- Return of the Original Power and Copies — a request to return the original, copies and any documents or keys, and to give a short account, within a set number of days.
- Third Parties the Donor Will Tell — a table of banks, providers and other organisations to be sent a copy, with references and dates.
- Execution — the donor’s signature as a deed with an independent witness.
- Attorney’s Acknowledgement (optional) — signature blocks for up to two attorneys to confirm receipt of a copy.
