Mirror Wills — Word & PDF Template

This Mirror Wills template provides two matching wills for a couple in England and Wales — in which each partner names the other as sole executor and leaves the estate to the other if they survive by 30 days, and otherwise to named substitute beneficiaries in equal shares. Each will is a complete, separate document that mirrors the other, and each partner stays free to change their own will later: the wills are matching, not a binding promise between the two.
Who is this template for?
For married couples, civil partners and cohabiting partners who share the same wishes and want straightforward, matching wills made at the same time.
What does the template include?
The document contains two parallel wills, each with the same structure, followed by a signing guidance page that is not part of either will:
- Will 1 — First Testator — the first partner’s complete will, to be signed and kept on its own.
- Testator Details — the testator’s details.
- Revocation — cancellation of earlier wills.
- Appointment of Executor(s) — the partner as sole executor, with a substitute.
- Appointment of Guardian (if applicable) — care of minor children if the partner does not survive by 30 days.
- Specific Bequests — particular gifts.
- Residuary Estate — the partner if they survive by 30 days, otherwise substitute beneficiaries.
- Funeral Wishes — preferences for the funeral.
- Execution — each will is signed separately in front of two adult witnesses present together, with a tick box for a will made in expectation of marriage or civil partnership.
- Will 2 — Second Testator — the second partner’s matching will, with the same sections.
Easy to customise
